Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years

Windsor Castle Shop

Quite a lot of visitors to Windsor spend just 2 or 3 hours in Windsor, just enough time to go around Windsor Castle, “Home” of the Queen.
That is a shame as there is so much of interest in and around Windsor you could spend a long weekend here and still want more.
The headline alternatives to Windsor Castle include Eton, LEGOLAND and Runnymede but there are many more places of interest that anywhere else might be a major attraction.
One of the more obscure such attractions is Windsor Farm Shop on the other side of Home Park from Windsor Castle.

The Queen and the Crown Estate are major land owners and farms are a significant part of that business. Windsor Farm Shop sells a range of products from the Royal Farms and small local specialist suppliers including Beef, Pork, Lamb and Game in season from the Royal Estates and The Great Park. A selection of hams and pies are cooked on site.
Produce is top of the range, you will find very little here in your local supermarket and most of it (if labelled) is Windsor Farms Shop own label.

Windsor Farm Shop Produce

Although Windsor farm shop is very much a working farm shop selling fine meats, vegetables, fruit and vegetables it has many lines with distinctly one eye on the tourist market.
There are very nicely packaged items, ideal as unusual and high quality gifts or souvenirs from confectionery, chocolates and biscuits to even beer.
At Easter and Christmas especially there are some very attractive (and different) special lines.
The farm shop also has a well regarded coffee shop, again with top quality products and service. On a fine day you can sit outside.
Prince Philip has been know to drop in driving his Land Rover keeping an eye that everything is up to scratch.

Getting To The Queen’s Farm Shop At Windsor
For most people the Queen’s farms shop is too far from Windsor Castle to walk.
The farm shop has its own extensive free car park.
The Windsor hop on, hop off sightseeing buses run all around Windsor and Eton year round and stop outside the farms shop. You can catch it in front of Windsor Castle.
The number 71 bus that links Windsor Castle with Heathrow Airport stops about 400 yards from the farm shop, (you can also use this bus to get to Runnymede). You get off at the first stop in Old Windsor, the first urban settlement after leaving Windsor town. The driver will point you in the right direction if requested. The bus is frequent, though on Sundays only once an hour.
The farm shop is open all year 7 days a week.
The video below is a slide show giving you a good flavour of what to expect.
